[edit] Who was Aisha?

Aisha (sometimes spelt as 'Ayesha') was the nine year old child-bride of Muhammad. She was engaged to him at the age of six. She was also the daughter of Abu Bakr, a close friend of Muhammad. Historically, she is known as Muhammad's "favourite wife."

Narrated 'A'isha (Allah be pleased with her) reported: Allah's Apostle (may peace be upon him) married me when I was six years old, and I was admitted to his house when I was nine years old. Sahih Bukhari Volume 7, Book 62, Number 64 Narrated 'Aisha: that the Prophet married her when she was six years old and he consummated his marriage when she was nine years old.

The age of Muhammad's child-bride Aisha, has only in recent times become an actively contested issue, with many Muslims (through embarrassment) claiming (lying?) that she was in fact older than nine when married or when the marriage was consummated.

[edit] Modern-day effects of this union

The effect on todays world has been profound. Muhammad is considered the uswa hasana (perfect example) by all Muslims. This doctrine is what separates Islam from other faiths; stopping any attempts at reform in its tracks and has lead to the continued acceptance of pedophilic marriages among many Muslim communities. This detestable practice still being common-place in many Islamic nations with child-brides as young as three years-old.

[edit] Aisha's dislike for Muhammad

Narrated 'Aisha: The things which annul the prayers were mentioned before me. They said, "Prayer is annulled by a dog, a donkey and a woman (if they pass in front of the praying people)." I said, "You have made us (i.e. women) dogs. I saw the Prophet praying while I used to lie in my bed between him and the Qibla. Whenever I was in need of something, I would slip away for I disliked to face him."

[edit] Pedophilia in the Quran

Besides the many Sahih hadiths which have recorded Muhammad's marriage to the 9 year old Aisha, the Quran also permits sexual intercourse with children who have not yet reached puberty:

And (as for) those of your women who have despaired of menstruation, if you have a doubt, their prescribed time shall be three months, and of those too who have not had their courses; and (as for) the pregnant women, their prescribed time is that they lay down their burden; and whoever is careful of (his duty to) Allah He will make easy for him his affair.
