[edit] Testimony of Leaving Islam

When I hit 16 and went off to college (UK), I had a bit of an identity crisis. My parents were of Bangladeshi origin but we lived in a predominately white English town so whenever I met relatives, I never felt that 'Bengali' enough and being non white, I wasn't always accepted as English by many either. After a lot of soul searching and research I decided Islam would help give me the inner strength I was looking for. It had a rich history and Islamic civilization seemed to have achieved much (at least in the past). As I delved more into Islam, I realized it was an absolute religion that demanded absolute obedience since it was the divine truth that surpasses everything and anything in importance. This turned me a little fundamentalist however I also became interested in many subjects (I had been from an early age but now I could study it more thoroughly). One was universal human rights and however I tried to justify Shariah, I just couldn't lie to myself anymore. Islam was incompatible with what I truly believed in. Suddenly it just hit me. By leaving Islam I suddenly started to ask myself endless more questions than before and each question bought up another until it got to the point I saw Islam for what it truly was from a historical and scientific point of view. Afterward I started to question its morality (since it's such a powerful force in the world today) and the rest is as they say 'history'.
