WikiIslam was made public on Sept. 4, 2006. Since then we’ve had over 2.5 million page views and an average of 15,000 people visit us every month to read over 1,300 articles. We need your help to grow.

There’s a lot of work to be done on WikiIslam. We have attempted to find volunteers to do this work for us but have not found anyone willing to work on our projects for free so we have decided to seek paid editors to do the job for us. We’ve had some success with this arrangement in the past but to continue we need your help.

Work Waiting To Be Done

Basically we have a lot of content that is just waiting to be entered into the wiki:

1. Importing of Forum Posts: Some of our most popular pages were actually posts written by members of the FFI forum. These include:

There are countless valuable FFI forum posts like these buried among other posts in old threads and forum archives. We have to wikify and import these posts and transform them into wiki articles like the above pages so the public can see them.

2. Adding new websites for List Islam: We need to surf the internet and add more websites to our List Islam page, a directory of websites and blogs which are related to the criticism of Islam. This is also another of our most popular pages with 30,000 hits.

3. Translation of the Quran: Although many translations are available on the web, ours will be unique with a non-muslim perspective and the only one with a word-to-word translation and other unique and important information relating to the surah. Al-Fatiha is one surah which has been written by an editor knowledgeable in Arabic but there are 114 surahs in the Quran with more than 6,000 verses so he needs all the help he can get to complete this project.

4. Islam Illustrated: A new Islam Illustrated section of the site had been started. Photoshop skills will be needed to create more pages to include more hadiths and verses.

5. IDebater: This is a new concept that is not available anywhere else on the internet. When the project is finished, it will be like a computer that debates with a Muslim. For an incomplete example which will give you an idea of what it would look like, please see: IDebater. Needless to say, there are many advantages of this approach.

These are just some of the specific projects which we know about and we have new projects and tasks that are regularly added to our tasks page.

Frequently Asked Questions by Prospective Donors

Here are a few FAQ’s which attempt to summarize the information above in case you still have any questions.

Why do you need money?
We need money to hire editors to complete the projects above and tasks listed on tasks page.

Why can't you find volunteers to do the work above?
Its not easy to find volunteers. The tasks involve significant time and effort in order to be completed. It is understandable that the average person would not be motivated to work on these projects for free. If you are interested to work as a volunteer, please email us and we will get you started one of these projects.

Why don’t you do the work yourself?
Its a lot of work and we are busy already with maintaining the website, keeping up with the software updates and development and doing a little bit of editing here and there whenever we can. We try our best but our list of tasks is long.

How do I know my money will be spent in the right way?
All donations will be use for paying our editors.

How can I make a payment?
At this time we are only accepting Paypal as a method of payment.

Are donations tax deductible?
No, unfortunately that will require us to be registered as a non-profit organization which is not possible due to anonymity concerns.

Can I work as a paid or volunteer editor?
Yes, if you are interested, please email us. You only need a computer and a Paypal account and you can work from anywhere. We will send you more details about the work after you email us. The work is text based and you can see some of the sample projects described above.
