Lesson 12 Part 3: Teaching Islam to Children.
Teacher Speaking: Today class, I will continue my lecture on the horse racing legacy of Muhammad (pbuh). Muhammad (pbuh) was a genius in recognizing the desirable horses from the undesirable ones. Children, Muhammad (pbuh) was the very first human to recognize the connection between the leg markings and the desirability of a horse. Let’s read about the wisdom of the final prophet.
The Horsey Wisdom of Muhammad (pbuh)
The Desirable Horse Sunan Abu-Dawud Book 14, Number 2538:. Narrated AbuWahb: The Prophet said: Keep to every sorrel horse with a white blaze and white on the legs, or dark bay with a white blaze. He then mentioned something similar. Muhammad ibn al-Muhajir said: I asked him: Why was a sorrel horse preferred? He replied: Because the Prophet had sent a contingent, and the man who first brought the news of victory was the rider of a sorrel horse.
The Undesirable Horse Sunan Abu-Dawud Book 020, No. 4623 & 4624 : It has been narrated on the authority of Abn Huraira that the Messenger of Allah used to dislike the Shikal horse. This tradition has been narrated on the authority of Sufyan with the addition from Abd ar-Razzaq (one of the narrators) explaining the meaning of shikal as a bone whose right back foot and left front foot or left back foot and right front foot are white.
Sunan Abu-Dawud Book 14, Number 2536: Narrated Utbah ibn AbdusSulami: Utbah heard the Apostle of Allah say: Do not cut the forelocks, manes, or tails of horse, for their tails are their means of driving flies, their manes provide them with warmth, and blessing is tide to their forelocks.
Teacher’s closing remark: Class, our beloved prophet Muhammad is directly responsible for lifting the pagan Arabs out of their superstitious quagmire into the shining light of Islam. All praise be to Allah!
Kind Regards
