Fasting

From WikiIslam

Jump to: navigation, search

In Islam, Suam (fasting) is a period of 30 days every year in which Muslims go on a hunger strike from dawn to dusk. Even water is not allowed. Fasting results in physical lethargy and loss of mental concentration due to which business hours have to be cut down, resulting in national economic loses. At dusk when Muslims break the fast, they usually indulge in an unhealthy binge drive. Muslims claim their fasting helps improve health but there is no medical evidence that the type of fasting they are involved in is beneficial in any way. Infact it is counter-productive to fast for so many hours (approximately 12 hours) without any food or water. [citation needed]

After the month of Ramadan in which fasting is observed, Muslims observe Eid-ul-Adha, a day to celebrate the end of Ramadan.
