[edit] Abrogation
The idea that only the Quran can abrogate the Quran is held by the Shafi’i, although this idea is not limited to them; they base this on Qur'an 2:106 and Qur'an 16:101. Others believe that the Quran can abrogate the Quran as well as Sunnah; they base this on Qur'an 53:3 and Qur'an 53:4. And still other do not believe in the doctrine of abrogation (Naskh) at all.
Finally, there is the view that there are four classes of naskh, they are:
- The Quran abrogates the Quran.
- The Quran abrogates Sunnah.
- Sunnah abrogates Sunnah.
- Sunnah abrogates the Quran.
[edit] Abrogations
The following lists the abrogations of the Quran. The left verses are the abrogated verses (Mansūkh) while the right verses are the abrogating verses (Nāsikh).
Please note that the "Verse of the Sword", also known as the "Sword verse", refers to Qur'an 9:5 and that due to how many verses it abrogates (about 113), we will write "Verse of the Sword" in place of this verse.
But when the forbidden months are past, then fight and slay the Pagans wherever ye find them, an seize them, beleaguer them, and lie in wait for them in every stratagem (of war); but if they repent, and establish regular prayers and practise regular charity, then open the way for them: for Allah is Oft-forgiving, Most Merciful.
