[edit] Background
There are no reliable sources regarding Osama bin Laden. One report indicates that he has three wives[1] while there are rumors that he has four wives.
He studied Islam at King Abdul-Aziz University under Muhammad Qutb[2](the yournger brother of Sayyid Qutb) and Sheikh Dr. Abdullah Azzam--Abdullah Azzam had a doctorate in Islamic law from Al-Azhar University. However, there are also reports that indicate he studied civil engineering there.[edit] Grievences
Sheikh Osama has commanded operations against the United States because his complaints have not been addressed. His original grievances are
- The presence of U.S. troops in Islamic countries particularly in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia since August 1990.
- The U.S. support of Israel
All non-Muslims and many Muslims especially in non-Islamic countries consider him a terrorist. His supporters and himself believe his is conducting a jihad like the one he conducted in Afghanistan against the Soviet troops.
[edit] Religious scholars
Osama bin Laden was supported by the Supreme Authority of Senior Scholars in Saudi Arabia in the beginning. Many of them concurred with Osama bin Laden with regard to the presence of U.S. troops in Saudi Arabia. Those that did were dismissed by the House of Saud.
