Sleep

In Islam, there are a number of hadiths that refer to sleep.

According to the Quran, when we sleep Allah takes our souls and when we wake up, as Allah wishes, he gives our souls back:

It is Allah that takes the souls (of men) at death; and those that die not (He takes) during their sleep: those on whom He has passed the decree of death, He keeps back (from returning to life), but the rest He sends (to their bodies) for a term appointed verily in this are Signs for those who reflect.

Comment: Why does Allah give back the souls for Bush or Theo van Gogh?

This hadith speaks for itself:

"The Prophet said, ‘If anyone rouses from sleep and performs ablution, he should wash his nose by putting water in it and then blow it out thrice because Satan has stayed in the upper part of his nose all the night.'"
