Talk:A Qur’anic Understanding of the Universe

68.224.202.121 22:28, 13 October 2008 (PDT)I'm sorry to say, but you guys are full of shit. You know close to nothing about Islam. I'm not supporting Islam here, but I certainly do not support your ignorance either. The Qu'ran does not say the Earth is flat. It does talk about the orbits of galaxies. I have read the Qu'ran along with the sacred texts of all the major worlds religions dozens of times, and you guys do not have a clear undestanding of Islamic cosmology.
In the 79th surah, it says, "Are you more difficult to create than the heaven? He constructed it.
[79:28] He raised its masses, and perfected it.
[79:29] He made its night dark, and brightened its morn.
[79:30] He made the earth egg-shaped.
[79:31] From it, He produced its own water and pasture."
In the 81st surah, it says, "[81:15] I solemnly swear by the galaxies.
[81:16] Precisely running in their orbits."
It also says, "[31:29] Do you not realize that GOD merges the night into the day and merges the day into the night, and that He has committed the sun and the moon in your service, each running in its orbit for a specific life span, and that GOD is fully Cognizant of everything you do?" This implies that the sun and the moon have a specific life-span, a concept more advanced than the vast majority of cultures 1400 years ago who thought the sun was eternal (except Jesus had already said, "This sky will pass away, and the sky above it will pass away...")
Just a few things for you to consider as you continue writing this article. If you're going to bash Islam, I don't really care, but at least do it with actual knowledge of the Qu'ran instead of saying "The earth is flat!" when Mohammed said the Earth is egg-shaped.
- The claim of "egg shaped" is incorrect. Please see this. The site will have an article on this later. --Whale 04:52, 14 October 2008 (PDT)
