Talk:Pedophilia in the Quran

Regarding, "Besides the numerous hadith which recorded Muhammad's marraige to nine year old Aisha, ", Muhammad married Aisha when she was six years old, and had sexual intercourse with her when she was nine.

Runnymede, thanks I agree thats a better stronger wording. I made the change. I look forward to seeing more of your contributions. Feel free to edit the articles directly. --Whale 17:50, 1 January 2007 (CST)

The article should be deleted. First the marriage of Mohammad to Aisha is not even in the Qur'an ... second, the word Pedophilia is derogatory. It was a marriage that was accepted and inline with the customs and cultures of that period Cunning 12:19, 28 May 2007 (PDT)

This article doesnt assert that the marraige of Aisha was in the Quran. It just says that Quran allows having sex with little girls who havent reached puberty. Thats all it says. As for the word pedophilia being offensive, this is a site that is critical of Islam. Also read the FAQ. --Whale talk contribs 12:25, 28 May 2007 (PDT)

Hello Cunning, thank you for your thoughts. However there are important things to note here:

1. 'Paedophile' is simply a label for a certain behaviour. One who has a sexual attraction to children is called a Paedophile. I do not agree that it is intentionally demeaning or meant to "make fun of" Muhammad. I can think of other words/phrases that we could have substituted if this had been our intention. Since Muhammad had a sexual attraction to a child, he fits the criteria for a Paedophile.

2. I do not agree that Paedophilia was accepted and practiced among the people in the Jahiliya, but I will concede this in order to make my point (again I do NOT say your claim is true). Is Muhammad supposed to be the "best example for all mankind to follow for ALL time?" (Yes) Is the Quran a guide to all mankind for all time (since its revelation)? (yes). Does either the Quran/ahadith say anyting like "you can only marry children in <this time period>" or "only Muhammad may marry and have sex with a child (no).

So either you can play the moral relativism card; thereby calling Muhammad and Allah liars (best example, follow Muhammad's Sunnah) or you admit that Muhammad's behaviour (unless specifically meant for him - proven) is to be followed by all Muslims for all time. The Quran allows Paedophilia (as this article shows) and Muhammad himself married and had sex with a child; therefore Allah allows Muslim men to marry and have sex with little girls. This is for all time.

Unless the Quran is not a book to be followed or Muhammad's example is not to be followed? Thanks Sanitarium 12:39, 28 May 2007 (PDT)

Page re-design?

I think this page needs an overhaul as it's starting to look a bit messy and all over the place. What does everyone else think? Thank you Haik for your excellent contributions!! Sanitarium 01:41, 8 March 2009 (PST)

I agree. Haik was kind enough to edit the page on my request and add material from his excellent article to the page but yes, it needs a little cleanup now. I will attempt one later. --Whale 07:40, 8 March 2009 (PDT)
Alright I took a first stab at it, but we need the URL's for this section (for each tafsir) and all Arabic looks the same to me (so I can't go get them). Also I need someone (Haik, hint hint) to go and bold the relevant sections of the same Arabic tafsir's (I can't do that either). Sorry I couldn't do it all! Feel free to make any changes (or revert the whole thing if it's no good) Sanitarium 06:33, 11 March 2009 (PDT)
Wow, looks great. Its all cleaned up now. thanks so much! I'll try to find those links or I'll contact Haik to take a look here at what you said in case he hasnt looked. --Whale 09:11, 11 March 2009 (PDT)
No problem! I don't mean to rush him, but as the page stands now, it's talking about sections of the Arabic that are not currently bolded. We need them bolded or the references to the bolding (and their translations) removed. Sanitarium 08:02, 17 March 2009 (PDT)
I tried some bold but I'll ask him if what I did was right. Thanks! --Whale 08:20, 17 March 2009 (PDT)
