[edit] If statements

Hey selfworm, I see you're editing the templates etc. The Parserfunctions are disabled for now because they create error messages. That means none of the templates will work which have the If etc, expressions. I'll see how I can resolve this.--Whale 17:01, 15 September 2006 (CDT)

No wonder it is not working. I promise you that as soon as the #if and #ifexpr statements start to work, I will give you the working templates. Selfworm 17:03, 15 September 2006 (CDT)
Ok great thanks. I'll definitely let you know when/if its working. Sorry about that, guess I should have mentioned it before that they're disabled for now! Anyway, I'll keep checking to resolve this. We can always add in the Quran verses later too. --Whale 17:09, 15 September 2006 (CDT)
Self, thanks for letting me know about the templates. Strange the two digit and others seemed to be showing me zeros so I thought they're working. I guess the real issue hadnt been solved yet. I'll check on that. --Whale 16:01, 17 September 2006 (CDT)
No problem. If you ever want to see if they are working check on this page: http://www.wikiislam.com/index.php/TestPage and also fool around with the #if statements to see if they actually do work. Good luck!!!Selfworm 16:25, 17 September 2006 (CDT)

[edit] Under construction template

I had to make changes to make that UC template work. I dont know why it didnt work the way Wikipedia does it, for one they're using a CSS I could'nt track down anywhere (boilerplate metadata). This should work for now. --Whale 05:29, 10 December 2006 (CST)

[edit] Great work on the main page

Wow the main page looks so FRESH now. Great work! --Whale 16:25, 11 December 2006 (CST)

[edit] History of Jihad

Hi Selfworm, you may use content from our site http://www.historyofjihad.org as also others http://www.waronjihad.org and http://www.newsonterror.com

We are the Webmasters of these sites and you may get in touch with us on newsonterror@yahoo.com.sg in case you need any clarification.

Thank you for your permission History of Jihad. I shall wikify your articles and place the images on the WikiIslam server so as to not leech off of your server. A lot of the images on http://www.historyofjihad.org are in .bmp format which WikiIslam does not support so I'm going to convert them to the jpg format. I also noticed that the images are fairly large and take some time to load so I may also resize them to achieve faster loading times. If you disagree with any of this then just tell me and I'll reverse my edits. Take care. selfworm 02:01, 4 January 2007 (CST)

[edit] HOJ articles

I tried to follow your standards on the History of Jihad Against the Mongols. These are the steps I took:

  • Saved all images (as you said above, the extensions were JPG, but the file is actually in BMP format). When I used IrfanView to view the files, it gave a prompt for each file to rename it to the correct .BMP extension, and I said 'yes'
  • Used Adobe Photoshop's Automated Web photo gallery, where it took those BMP images and outputted JPG files in the album (original size of the image was kept) - and uploaded the JPG files
  • Copy pasted article from Browser to Dreamweaver, which deleted the linebreaks for the short width column (which is what we want)
  • Manually inserted images and headings, and the main template and the bibliography

Thats it. Is there a shorter way? It took me about an hour for that article. --Whale 10:59, 7 January 2007 (CST)

Nice job with the article and I'm glad that we're being consistent with the article layout. I will convert all of the images to jpg and upload them so you don't have to worry about that. As for the articles, what I do is copy and paste the text straight from their site and I find that this only takes me about 10-20 minutes per article. selfworm 12:12, 7 January 2007 (CST)
Oh ok, thanks, good then I'm on the right track. Converting the images is not a problem for me as well, I can do that. Everything is looking good with all these pictures.--Whale 17:32, 7 January 2007 (CST)

[edit] User Aurvandil

Thanks, will do. Our vandal protection actually also limits the number of posts users can make in a specified amount of time (specified in minutes, hours and even days) so even if its an verified user (bot or human vandal), they can only do a limited amount of damage thats easily revertible whenever we discover their activity. Edits from all unverified users as whole are also monitored in case several vandals decide to do a group attack. By the way thanks for correcting those final Muslim hadith 0's. I must have missed regexing those.--Whale 19:03, 27 April 2007 (PDT)

[edit] Decline of Islamic Countries

Selfworm removed the Decline of Islamic Countries, but the info is useful, and should be posted somewhere.

I copied one of the links onto the statistics page. The reasons why I removed the article from the front page was because 1) It was too short to be listed on the front page (with only 2 entries), 2) It was just a collection of links without any elucidation. If you want to place links on wikiIslam then please place them in a more appropriate location, such as the Internet Toolbox, which is specifically made to host links. selfworm 08:54, 27 May 2007 (PDT)

[edit] Plainlink template

{{plainlink}} is also available, an easier way. Also, we can now make links to Wikipedia articles by doing this: [[w:Chicago|this city]], which produces this city. --Whale talk contribs 19:28, 17 June 2007 (PDT)

Thanks Whale; will do in the future. selfworm 19:29, 17 June 2007 (PDT)

You should have waited for an answer before going on a deletion frenzy.

[edit] Islamic Calender

I deleted the Islamic calendar article after seeing its a copy of Wikipedia but then I saw it was you who had copied it. There's a number of pages linking to it. Since we were deleting all the copies, I thought this one could be deleted too. Phew, I have spent this weekend deleting the articles and cleaning up broken redirects. --Whale (talk/contribs) 14:39, 1 July 2007 (PDT)

Thanks for the deletion Whale; I believe that that was one of the first articles that I ever created, but now I am happy that it's gone since it wasn't aiding WikiIslam. And good job with the articles, I really like how we now have redirects to the Wikipedia articles instead of just copy-and-paste dumps. Also, I am currently writing an article against Islam that will take me several months to complete. To my knowledge, no one has ever attempted to disprove Islam in the way that I am doing right now. I will do some editing here over the next few months, but not very much. I will do much more editing once I am finished with these very large articles. Take care. selfworm 14:08, 7 July 2007 (PDT)
Yea, we dont have any Wikipedia articles now, we want to be known for unique stuff. Farside's posts are all done now, I have to work on some other projects too. I'll make two new sections on the main page for an Op-Eds section and perhaps a New Articles section, stuff like that. Once I'm doing with the Q&H series and the IDebater and the Main Page, I think I'll take a breather too which I really need where I'll just be overseeing but not contributing anything. One more thing, I want to see if I can shorten the gaps in the Quotation template and maybe play with the colors, so I'll be playing with that. Good luck with your article, let me know if you have any suggestions for anything. --Whale (talk/contribs) 14:48, 7 July 2007 (PDT)
Thanks, and good luck fixing the Quotation template. Those colors have been bothering me for a while as well. I would recommend that we find a single "major" color that will be used throughout WikiIslam; in every template, border, etc. Maybe we could create a template "Template:majorColor" that we write in place of a fixed color, so as to give us the ability to change the appearance of WikiIslam with a single edit. The contents of the template would simply be the color code. What do you think? selfworm 12:41, 8 July 2007 (PDT)
Using the same color everywhere might become monotonous. Wikipedia itself uses yellow, green, blue and gray, in just different kinds of quotation templates so I think its okay to have different colors. A better proposal is for example that we might code Green for Quran quotes, yellow for Hadiths, light blue (lighter than current) for quotes from people and grey for quotes from websites. That might be a good idea because we can tell at an instant what kind of quote it is. The Quotation template could take in another parameter: q,h,p,w that would determine the background color, OR we could have 4 separate templates which might be a better idea. I'm probably going to have to use Regex's to do the conversions otherwise it will be impossible. What do you think? --Whale (talk/contribs) 13:31, 8 July 2007 (PDT)
I also don't want the same color to be used everywhere. Rather, I would want one color to be the "major" color (i.e. the color that is used most often) and then we would have other "minor" colors (i.e. colors that are used less often than the major color). So for example, your color coded Quran/Hadith idea, which I support, could possibly use some "minor" colors. The reason why I propose this is that I feel that have such major/minor colors would bring "color consistency" to WikiIslam. As for your proposal to add parameters to the quotations templates, I think that it would be wonderful so long as they have default arguments. selfworm 01:07, 10 July 2007 (PDT)
I dont know of any places where we use color besides these quotation templates. There's some other templates but they're usually some kind of grey. I'm not clear about your suggested usage of minor colors in these templates. Mmm, you mean maybe a colored bar where the hadith's verse number is being mentioned e.g.? --Whale (talk/contribs) 06:42, 10 July 2007 (PDT)
The major/minor colors reach beyond any specific templates. You don't need to worry about this any more; in one or two months I'll show you what I had in mind. selfworm 17:17, 10 July 2007 (PDT)
Ok then I look forward to seeing what you got. I'll work on those 4 colored templates. --Whale (talk/contribs) 17:37, 10 July 2007 (PDT)
Excellent, good luck. selfworm 18:08, 10 July 2007 (PDT)

[edit] Timeline of Islamic Expansion

It cant be made into a recirect since its off site. Just delete those pages and remove the link from the main page, thats all I can think of. Thats what we've done for other Wikipedia links.--Whale (talk/contribs) 04:50, 13 July 2007 (PDT)

Maybe you meant [[w:Article|LinkText]] (the W icon in the edit toolbar). --Whale (talk/contribs) 06:26, 13 July 2007 (PDT)
Thanks for the info Whale, I've created a section for Wikipedia links in the internet toolbox and deleted my old copy and paste article. selfworm 21:08, 13 July 2007 (PDT)
Thanks. --Whale (talk/contribs) 17:46, 14 July 2007 (PDT)

[edit] Streamlined quotes

I did it finally: {{Quote}}, its better than before. Less spaces now. What I did with Argument 1 and 3, I brought them together on the same line so they'd take up less space. --Whale (talk/contribs) 14:44, 3 September 2007 (PDT)
