Some devout Muslims sometimes use doctored or even entirely faked pictures to mislead people into believing in Islam.

[edit] Imam Ghazali
Imam Ghazali's authority in Islam is indisputable. He says:
When it is possible to achieve such an aim by lying but not by telling the truth, it is permissible to lie if attaining the goal is permissible"[1]
Of course what goal better than creating miracles for Allah!
