What is a wiki?

A wiki is a website which anyone can edit using a web browser. This is different from conventional websites which can only be edited by their administrators who are using specialized web editing software. A wiki puts you in the seat of a website administrator.

Is WikiIslam a branch of Wikipedia or the Wikimedia foundation?

No, we are not in any way related to or endorsed by these organizations. Our only commonality is our use of the same freely available software, Mediawiki, which is also used by hundreds of other wiki websites.

Can anyone create a login id and contribute to this website?

Yes.

How is WikiIslam different from WikiPedia?

Asides from the fact that Islam is the primary topic at WikiIslam, the main difference between WikiIslam and Wikipedia is that the primary goal of WikiIslam is to help Muslims leave Islam by providing them with information that may otherwise not be available to them.

Is WikiIslam a hate site?

No, WikiIslam is not a hate site. We do not believe all Muslims are terrorists. In fact, many of us are ex-Muslims with Muslim family and friends. The purpose of this wiki is to archive those truths about Islam which are frequently censored by Muslims or political correctness. This project also provides a much-needed relief for editors at WikiPedia whose opinions are constantly edited out by Muslims and others who are afraid of saying anything against Islam for fear of NPOV or bias.

What is the purpose of WikiIslam?

The purpose of WikiIslam is to help Muslims leave Islam. WikiIslam can help Muslims leave Islam either by showing Muslim visitors a side of Islam that they may have never seen before, or by being used as a reference by non-Muslims who are trying to help Muslims leave Islam.

Can pro-Islamic opinions be found on WikiIslam?

Any pro-Islamic opinions that are found on WikiIslam will be rebutted. For reading and contributing exclusively pro-Islamic opinions please see the Muslim Wikipedia.

What is it about Islam here that I cannot find in Wikipedia?

Although Wikipedia has a lot of sourced content on many subjects, a lot of content can be found here on WikiIslam that you could never find on Wikipedia. Without having requirements of NPOV or notability in the way, there are infinitely many ways in which information can be arranged. Rebuttals to Zakir Naik, Islamic Prophecies, Farsideology, Numbers of Islam, Scholars on Jihad and Quotations from the Quran and the Hadith are just a few examples of articles which could not be created in Wikipedia due to their restrictive policies.

We already have Wikipedia. Whats the use of WikiIslam?

The absence of restrictive editing policies allows free flow of information critical of Islam, which is not possible in Wikipedia.

Why should I read anything if its not NPOV or notable?

Having this website on Islam is akin to having a website dedicated to detail the crimes committed by Hitler.

I’ve heard many good things about Islam. Why doesn’t this site talk about them?

We do have one page dedicated to the good things in Islam.

Why are there no sources for the content?

Although sources are good to have, they are not absolutely required. The accuracy of any information is confirmed by the fact that there are other editors on the site to confirm the truthfulness of the content. Wherever possible, facts are supported by citing Islamic sources like hadiths, verses and fatwas.

I'm looking for information on Islam. Is this the site to get it?

If you're looking for information critical on Islam, this is the site to read it, although we are growing and relatively new.

What are the advantages of this site as compared to other sites critical of Islam?

The biggest advantage is that anyone with access to the internet can edit the website. You don’t need to be a webmaster. All you need is a login, which can be created in 30 seconds and you can edit the website from your browser just like writing an email.

Since this site only contains negative opinions of Islam, why should I be interested in reading it?

If a website was dedicated to detailing atrocities committed by Hitler, that doesn't mean the website is biased. We don’t say that Islam has no good in it but that, any good in it is vastly overshadowed by its evils.

What is the religious persuasion of the contributors to WikiIslam?

WikiIslam contributors come from all religious persuasions except Islam, including irreligious contributors of no faith.

Who runs this website?

The site belongs to and is maintained by Faith Freedom International. FFI is an organization whose goals are to unmask Islam and help Muslims leave it. It is founded by Ali Sina, an ex-Muslim from Iran.

Vandalism and Security

We are aware of the high risk of vandalism to this website due to its controversial nature and differing opinions and are prepared to effectively deal with any attempt to sabotage the content of this site. In any case this is a Wiki website which means the website can always recover from any amount of vandalism.

I have contributed to WikiIslam. What if a Muslim creates an account and deletes content on the website and/or replaces it with pro-Islamic content?

Under current policies, this will not be allowed. Any such changes will immediately be reverted and the editor will be disallowed from further editing of the website. This wiki is not for pro-Islamic content. In the future however, the administrators of the wiki may decide to alter this policy and allow pro-Islamic contributions but in that case, pro-Islamic content will be clearly labeled and kept separate from the main content of the website.

Is the content safe from hackers?

Yes. We make weekly data backups in multiple locations to make sure your valuable edits are protected and safe. We did lose 5 days worth of edits in April 2007 due to the server being hacked but fortunately there wasn't much editing going on around that time. This was the only time we have lost data.

What protection mechanisms have been installed?

A unique protection system Auto Block has been developed exclusively for WikiIslam which limits all kinds of vandalism.
